Fortress Bourtange is a historic fortress in the north of the Netherlands, located in the province of Groningen, near the German border. It was built in 1593 during the Eighty Years` War on the orders of William of Orange to defend against the Spanish.
The fortress has a unique star-shaped structure, typical of the military architecture of that time. Events are regularly organized, such as the Bourtange Christmas market and the Battle of Bourtange, view all upcoming events on this website.
